Appearance:

Adults can reach 6' in length. Very stout bodied and a close examination will reveal about 50 dim, black crossbars giving rise to a "salt & pepper" look. Back is olive, green or brownish. Belly is yellowish or white.

Notes:

Found only in far western Kentucky near swamps, wetlands, and other aquatic habitats. Eats fish and frogs.
